2008 Budget

Present: Chairman Weeks, Selectman Stockman, Selectman Duffy, Marion Morgan, and members of the public.

Chairman Weeks, Cathy Pounder, and Jack Widmer will be meeting on 2/8/08 to work on the 2008 budget. The meeting time will coincide with normal business hours at the DRA.

Selectman Stockman suggested that a monthly report from Jack Widmer would be a useful management tool. Chairman Weeks noted that the Munismart software has many functions, and may not be being utilized to its fullest potential due to the learning curve of new software.

The discussion turned to where cuts can be made to the proposed budget in order to save a million dollars. The Selectmen agreed that at this late date, it is not likely that reductions to the big accounts such as personnel and benefits can be made. A member of the public agreed that personnel benefit cuts is a difficult process and should not be attempted at this time.

A member of the public suggested that the Selectmen ask their Department Heads to tighten by a certain percent. Selectman Stockman noted that they were asked to make concessions last year. The three Selectmen agreed that asking the Department Heads for their help is a good step.

The outcome of the meeting was that Chairman Weeks would contact the Department Heads for their input by the meeting on 2/8/08. She also recommended a line-by-line review at the 2/8/08 meeting.
