Parks & Recreation Minutes 04/07/2008

TOWN OF TUFTONBORO

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

MINUTES4/7/08 MEETING

Present: Kathy and Eric Roseen, Laurie Weir, Ted Bense, Paul Askew, Betsy McCarthy, Pat Mancuso, Mary Ann Murray

Acceptance of the Minutes

The minutes from the 3/3/08 meeting were reviewed and accepted.

Old Business:

1. Tuftonboro Central Park (Gould Property)

The Snowshoe and Sledding Tailgate Party occurred from 1-3 PM on Saturday, 3/29/08. Fourteen community members came and counting the ten P&R members and their families, there was a total of 24 attendees. The ‘tailgate’ was manned by Chris and Betsy, who offered baked goods and hot chocolate to the participants. Snowshoes were borrowed from Carpenter School.

There was a discussion about P&R obtaining our own snowshoes for future parties. We would accept donations of gently used snowshoes. There was also talk of purchasing new shoes, using the Vegetables for Charity money donated to Parks and Rec during fall 2006. Kathy will look into this.

The day after the Snowshoe Party, Eric returned to the property and located routes for new trails.

2. Davis Field

Once the ice melts, there will be a work party to pick up the ice rink. Eric will contact Bob Meehan about revitalizing the ball field.

3. Eric informed the group that the Lions Club had donated $100 to Jacob Evans for his Eagle Project.

4. Flower bed maintenance

Ted maintains the flower bed at Tuftonboro Neck Rd. and the church members maintain the one at the church. The commission decided to fix up the bed at Ledge Hill Rd. as a spring project and plant perennials.

5. Nineteen Mile Beach

Paul filled in the depression behind the pavilion with 20 yards of sand last fall and needs to add loam this spring. The members decided to make our next meeting a work party at the pavilion to plant daylilies and hosta around the flagpole. The work party will also include a barbecue, with members arriving 5-5:30 PM. Eric will bring the grill and Betsy offered to bring meat, cheese and rolls. Laurie is bringing chips. Kathy will bring salad and dessert. Mary Ann will bring soda. Members should also bring daylilies and hosta from their gardens, work tools and rakes for the beach.

Ted wondered about the handicap porta-potty and will check the budget to see if it passed.

6. Beach Monitors

Mary Ann will type a letter to the town’s insurance company with questions re: beach monitoring.

New Business

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2008 at 5:30 PM at Nineteen Mile Beach.

Respectfully submitted by Kathy Roseen
