TOWN OF TUFTONBORO
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES – 12/4/07 MEETING
Present: Ted Bense, Kathy and Eric Roseen, Chris Sawyer
Acceptance of the Minutes
The minutes from the 11/13/07 meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Old Business:
1. Tuftonboro Central Park (Gould Property)
The 11/23 work party occurred with Ted Bense; Pat, Chris and Ceci Mancuso; Mary Ann Murray; and Kathy and Eric Roseen. Clearing of the loop was completed. The total loop is approximately a 30-40 minute walk.
2. Budget
The following changes in the budget were made at the selectmen’s meeting.
· Beach toilets: from 2000 to 1600.
· Town docks: 0
· Swim program: from 1000 to 500
· Davis Field: from 3000 to 1000
· Walks and trails: from 600 to 200
· Beach monitor: abolished
· Beach improvement: from 3000 to 1500
· Gould property improvements: 2500
3. Davis Field
Ted will cut a tree that is overhanging the swing set.
4. Lifeguards
Mary Ann has offered to research a warrant article for March town meeting that focuses on lifeguards. She will contact the town’s insurance company and have them speak to P&R about the liability without lifeguards.
5. Horseshoe pits
The selectmen are cautious about allowing horseshoe pits to be built at the far end of Nineteen Mile Beach. They want to know how other towns handle this in terms of supervision. The commission discussed how campgrounds have horseshoe pits that are unsupervised. Ted offered to research this further.
6. Grant
The NH Recreational Trails Program grant needs to be completed in full by 1/18/08. The commission discussed ways to make use of this. There is no time to obtain all the permits that are required, but some money may be granted for lease of equipment intended to remove rocks and grade slopes at the Gould Property. Eric offered to complete the application.
7. Ski for Scholarship
Barbara McClure was unable to attend tonight. The members continue to feel that this should be a family event and that by opening it up to more people, there would be an increase in donations toward the Tuftonboro Scholarship. Chris and Kathy will write a note to Barbara McClure.
8. Ice rink
Paul had plowed this area in the past, however, he currently has an injured knee. Corey Hunter had removed snow from the rink. The members discussed hiring someone for set-up and up-keep. Eric will contact Corey to see if he is interested in taking over the set up and maintenance, hopefully in time for Christmas vacation.
New Business
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Town Office.
Respectfully submitted by Kathy Roseen
