Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes of 5/23/05 were approved.

Items for Signature:  Pike Industries Paving Contract; Abatement of Timber Tax for Simon Martin; Veterans Property Tax Credit for Lyon; Corrected Application for Current Use for Procter.

At approximately 3:00 Selectmen met with Fran Laase regarding the abatement application he had submitted for his 2004 taxes. Selectman Weeks explained the process – the assessors first investigate and then make a recommendation to the Selectmen, which they may or may not approve. If approved then a refund check would be issued. The change in assessment value would be effective with the second tax bill due in December. This process is handled by MRI, which is different from the company doing the revaluation, Avitar. Mr. Laase thanked the Selectmen for clearing up the confusion.

The Selectmen have a pre bid meeting for the ADA toilet renovation at the Town House at 4 pm today.

The Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Veterans Tax Credit for William Lyon
  • Corrected Current Use Applications for Procter
  • Pike Industries paving Contract
  • Timber Tax Abatement for Martin
  • Intent to Excavate for Bean

The Selectmen discussed upcoming board appointments for the Planning Board, ZBA, Recreation Committee and Conservation Committee.

Planning Board: Ted Wright is stepping down as a full time member but is willing to be an alternate. Dan Derby is willing to become full time and Wilson Stewart will be reappointed.

Recreation Committee: There is no specified amount of members for this committee. Dan Libby may not be interested in continuing and not sure of Will Williams’s intentions. Steve Berry had expressed an interest at one time.

ZBA: Jim Cubeddu is willing to go for another term. Not sure about Bob Theve.

Conservation Commission:  The appointments for the commission will be discussed again next week. (Removed reference to Brian Hastings)

Selectman Weeks will call Jay Poulin regarding a request for a site plan for the Transfer Station.

Selectmen discussed allowing a driveway off the Transfer Station road. This is technically not a town road but a driveway to the facility. Selectman Albee made a motion to allow Fred Sargent to build a driveway off of the Transfer Station road. Seconded by Selectman Weeks with all in favor. There was then some discussion as to whether or not this is considered a town road. Selectman Weeks explained that it was built as a driveway to the Transfer Station. It was never platted or approved by the Planning Board so therefore it is not a town road. The Selectmen will have the property owner draw up an easement.

Selectman Weeks will check into the wording for new signs at the town’s two beaches to make sure they are in compliance with town regulations.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:35 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
