At approximately 3:00 Selectmen met with Judy Jolicouer from Starting Point. Ms. Jolicouer explained that they are conducting a spring wide outreach to towns regarding the services offered by their organization. The crisis line is manned 365 days a year, 24/7, by volunteers trained to deal with victims of sexual assault or domestic violence. Services provided include outreach for welfare, childcare, transportation, court advocacy, hospital advocacy, support groups, resource center and emergency shelter. Ms. Jolicouer reported 510 clients were helped last year in Carroll County. All services are free of charge and supported through grants, the towns and cities and various other agencies.

The Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Timber Tax Warrant
  • Gravel Tax Warrant
  • Compensation Authorization and ID card for Lane Evans
  • 2005 Municipal Wage, Salary and Benefit Survey
  • Financial Assurance for the Tuftonboro Landfill Post Closure Monitoring

The bid documents were received from Wes Flierl for the Town House renovation. The advertisement will be in the 5/26 Granite State News. Responses will have to be received by Monday June 20th at 3 pm and the contract will be awarded on Monday June 27th at 3 pm. The project should start on or before August 15th with substantial completion by October 20th. A pre-bid information meeting is tentatively scheduled for Monday June 6th. Selectman Weeks will confirm with Wes Flierl.

Selectman Weeks has contacted H. E. Bergeron regarding the High Street Bridge. Information on the last state inspection was forwarded to HEB last week. An architect for the Public Safety Building has also been contacted and a copy of the study done by the Public Safety Needs Assessment Committee was mailed last week.

Selectmen discussed the status of the Cheney Farm Easement as the property has been put up for sale. The Selectmen decided that it would still be beneficial to meet with Attorney Ryan for information and in the event another easement is approved. Selectman Albee will call tomorrow to make an appointment for sometime at the end of June.

Selectman Weeks reported she would be away from May 27th to June 5th.

Selectman Weeks received a packet of information from the Department of Transportation regarding highway projects eligible for funding. This would include the building of sidewalks, which the Town has been talking about between the school and the Town Office. This should be kept in mind for the future. Selectman Albee mentioned the crosswalks for Pier 19 and the Tuftonboro General Store. It was decided to meet with the state for their opinion regarding the crosswalks. Selectman Albee will call and set up an appointment for the Selectmen to meet with the DOT.

The drainage problem on Sodom Road, which was brought to the Selectmen’s attention last week, was determined to be due to the natural slope of the land. The property owner was advised that building up the driveway would correct the problem. Both the Selectmen and Road Agent had made a site visit.

The damage to High Street as reported by a resident was also investigated and determined that there isn’t any damage other than normal weather cracks.

Joe Kowalski reminded the Selectmen not to wait until the last minute to discuss health insurance costs.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
