Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes of 4/18/05 were approved.
Items for Signature: Intent to Excavate for Robert Carleton, Steve Hunter; Timber Tax Warrant; Gravel Tax Warrant; Land Use Change Tax for Gale.
At approximately 3:00 Selectmen met with Road Agent Steve Hunter. Mr. Hunter reported that he is working on cutting bushes and cleanup from storm damage. He will start sweeping the roads as soon as they dry up.
Chief Shagoury reported he has been looking into different models for the new cruiser and can get a 2006 Ford Expedition for $3000.00 less than a 2006 Chevy Tahoe. There is no rush to purchase the vehicle now so it was decided to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens with car prices as the dealers have large inventories.
At 3:15 Chairman Stockman called the Highway Safety Committee meeting to order.
At approximately 3:40 the Selectmen approved and signed the following:
Chairman Stockman noted that a Report of Excavation has not been received from Gerry Holmberg and a new Intent has not yet been filed. The Selectmen will have the Code Officer look into the volume of excavation that has taken place at that site.
Selectman Weeks reported that Wes Flierl is putting together the final details on the proposed bid documents for the renovations at the Town House and hopes to have something for next week.
Chairman Stockman has talked to Paul Kimball on the phone regarding exterior painting at the Piper House. They still have to meet.
The Selectmen discussed the Cheney Easement. Selectman Weeks received an e-mail from Ann Hackl, Chair of the Conservation Commission. Ms. Hackl advised that the Commission would not be looking up and printing the reference documents as stated last week. Selectman Weeks also received a call from Brenda Schultz. Ms. Schultz was getting concerned that the issue was becoming too complicated. She also wanted to know if the easement could be for thirty years instead of in perpetuity. A copy of the current version of the easement document was mailed to her. Chairman Stockman stated that the Town, at the 2004 town meeting, told the Selectmen they were in favor of the easement and that they (the Selectmen) needed to act as representatives of the Town and not as protectors of Wayne and Brenda. Mr. Cheney spoke to Chairman Stockman and told him he is upset about what has been going on. Chairman Stockman emphasized that the process has to keep moving forward. Selectman Albee stated that the easement document has to be taken out of the hands of the Conservation Commission and that he had no intention of signing the document as it is written. Town Counsel will be consulted for advice on the best person to contact to write the easement. Selectman Albee will make a couple of phone calls and report back next week.
Selectman Albee stated that the Conservation Commission needed to reflect the opinion of the Town and suggested that the Selectmen look for new appointees to the commission.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carolyn Sundquist
