At approximately 3:00 Selectmen discussed the following issue in open session. Former Town Clerk, Leanora Quilliam, has hired a lawyer claiming she is due payment for unused vacation and sick time. Attorney Jon Hanson sent a letter to the Selectmen in hopes of settling the issue without going to court. The Selectmen stated that since the Town Clerk does not have a set schedule and gets paid the same amount no matter how much time is worked the claim is unfounded. A copy of the letter will be sent to Town Counsel. Selectman Weeks will follow-up.

Selectman Albee will contact the department heads of the Planning Board and ZBA to set up a meeting with Attorney Deborah Fauver as mentioned last week. Ann Hackl of the Conservation Commission was in attendance and will advise the rest of the commission.

At approximately 3:15 Selectmen met with Fred Sargent. Mr. Sargent reported that the company that was supposed to do the stump grinding no longer does that type of work. Chairman Stockman will speak to some of his contacts to see if someone else can be found. Mr. Sargent will ask Scott Greenwood to attend the NRRA Recycling Conference and Expo on June 6-7.

At approximately 3:25 Selectmen met with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. Chief Thompson reported 72 fire, 23 medical, 11 service and 2 paramedic intercept calls.

There have been 5 oil burner inspections to date. The department has taken delivery of the airboat and it is now in service. Several training sessions have been completed. The seasonal permits have been mailed. The mutual aid record cards are in the process of being updated. Ten members of the department assisted with the cleanup of 51 Willow Ave. The ISO (insurance rating system) is scheduled to be updated.

At approximately 3:35 Selectmen met with Police Chief Andrew Shagoury. Chief Shagoury reminded everyone of the need to schedule a meeting of the Highway Safety Committee. The meeting was scheduled for next Monday at 3:00. The Road Agent will be notified. A video for the new cruiser, bike helmets and a spike strip are some of the items that are eligible for federal grant money. The Chief reported that March had been a very busy month and that he will start looking into the purchase of the new cruiser.

At approximately 3:40 Selectmen met with Ann Hackl and Wayne Cheney. Ms. Hackl submitted the revised copy of the easement as per the discussion last week. She asked the Selectmen to make sure that everything is okay so that it can be discussed again next week. Ms. Hackl will also assign members of the Conservation Commission to look up and make copies of the documents being referred to in the easement. Selectman Albee spoke to Mr. Cheney about the importance of having liability insurance. Mr. Cheney was not inclined to agree. The following items are still pending: base line plan, title search and title insurance and still need to hear back from Steve Hundley. Mr. Cheney is anxious to settle this issue. Two copies of Mr. Cheney’s appraisal will be made for the Town Office.

At approximately 4:20 Selectmen met with Ted Wright and Lane Evans. Mr. Wright presented an example of the mileage detail requested last week by Selectman Albee. Mr. Wright felt that it takes a lot of time to keep this kind of record and is not sure what it would be used for. The Selectmen will give it some more thought. Mr. Wright reported that the problem on Leavitt Lane and in Hidden Valley is getting worse with more junk than ever.  The Selectmen spoke to Lane Evans about his interest in the Code Officer position. After some discussion permission was given to have Mr. Evans trained to fill in when Mr. Wright is off. Mr. Evans will bring his schedule in next week. Selectmen will discuss salary. Mr. Evans also asked the Selectmen if they have given any thought to the request for a donation of property to the Boy Scouts. A parcel on Union Wharf was discussed. Mr. Evans and the Boy Scouts appreciate the use of the Town House for their meetings.

The Selectmen approved and signed the Intent to Cut for Bense.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
