Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes of 8-30-04 and 9-7-04 were approved.

The meeting was held at 8:00 am at the Town House during the Primary Elections.

At approximately 8:20 Chairman Weeks advised she had spoken to Kimball’s Lumber Center regarding their bid on the Town House renovations. The bid given included excavation work that could be done by the road agent. Chairman Weeks made a motion to accept the bid from Kimball’s Lumber Center for renovation of the Town House. Seconded by Selectman Albee with all in favor. Chairman Weeks will try to set up a meeting today with Wes Flierl, Steve Hunter and Kimball’s to discuss the project.

Selectmen will review the contracts for Avitar and MRI to clarify which firm is responsible for pickups.

At approximately 8:25 Selectmen met with Patty Korbett from H. E. Bergeron regarding a new development with the County Road Bridge. It was discovered after the deck was removed that most of the stringers are rotting and should be replaced. The stringers were part of the original engineering inspection but most of them looked fine from the bottom. The original plan was to replace 6 stringers. A quote was received from Peter Ross of Moores Marine for the 21 additional stringers in the amount of $25,544.00. Ms. Korbett will ask for unit price breakdown of the quote. A decision should be made soon in order to order the additional material. The Selectmen will make a field visit to the bridge today after the meeting.  Ms. Korbett also mentioned that Moores Marine is having trouble getting the preservative specified in the contract. Moores Marine will be allowed to use a less expensive preservative only if the savings is passed on to the Town.

Selectmen discussed the recommendation of the Conservation Commission to appoint Gary Chehames to the commission. Selectman Albee said he would like to have the appointees attend the Selectmen’s meeting before making a decision on the appointment. It was agreed to require attendance with future appointments. Selectman Albee made a motion to accept the Conservation Commission’s recommendation to appoint Gary Chehames. Seconded by Selectman Stockman with all in favor.

The Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Timber Tax Warrant for Ratcliffe
  • Intents to Cut for Bean, Brower
  • Notice of Appointment for Chehames

Joe Kowalski asked if anyone has spoken to Jay Poulin regarding the Transfer Station. As no one had, Mr. Kowalski was given permission to call to find out the status of the project.

Joe Kowalski submitted the completed Public Safety Needs Assessment Committee report. Included was a letter from Bruce Pigott who was not in agreement with the rest of the committee. There were also letters in response to Mr. Pigott’s letter from other members of the committee. The Selectmen will go over the report and discuss at their next meeting on the 20th. Mr. Kowalski and other members of the committee will attend. Mr. Pigott did not want to discuss his issues with the committee but said he would meet with the Selectmen. The report will be put on the town’s website without the letters.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 AM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
