Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes for 6-21-04 have been approved.

At approximately 6:15, Selectman Albee made a motion to go into non-public session pursuant to RSA 91-A: 3 II (b) to discuss a personnel issue. Selectman Stockman seconded the motion. Roll call: Chairman Weeks – yes, Selectman Stockman – yes, Selectman Albee – yes.

At approximately 6:35 Selectmen met with Mary Ann Murray and Eric Roseen of the Parks and Rec Commission. Mary Ann said that some of her issues have been taken care of – the swim lines and rafts were in the water early Monday morning before the swim team met. Ms. Murray will meet Tuesday morning with the road agent and Center Harbor Docks to decide how to attach the kick boards to the rafts. Mr. Roseen and Ms. Murray expressed a concern about the maintenance of the beach. Ted Bense, in a volunteer capacity, has been raking it the past couple of years and Mr. Roseen felt that the work should be compensated. Chairman Weeks stated that there is a lack of coordination between all of the people who do work at the beach and would like Parks and Rec to put together a plan or schedule of who does what and when. The ball field has been fixed for now but will need additional work next year. The road agent suggested that the sand be moved into a big pile, then mixed with loam and seeded. The Selectmen approved having the road agent do this work. Mr. Roseen advised that as the commission is looking for another group to take over the maintenance of the ice rink it has been ‘put out to bid’. A notice was placed in the current issue of the Tuftonboro Times.

At approximately 6:55 Selectmen met with Road Agent Steve Hunter. Mr. Hunter reported that Pike is in the area paving 109A so hopefully they will start the Tuftonboro paving soon. Selectman Stockman referred a comment made by a resident on Shirley Way regarding the size of the rocks in the road.  Mr. Hunter has scheduled the hazardous tree work to be done around 7/15.

Chairman Weeks reported the poles have finally been moved from 19 Mile Beach.

Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Facility Use Contract for the Tuftonboro Central School
  • Intent to Cut for Cubeddu
  • Right of Burial for Cheney

Selectmen discussed the abatement recommendations made by MRI. A motion was made by Selectman Stockman to approve the recommendations of MRI regarding the four abatement requests. Seconded by Selectman Albee with all in favor. Three of the abatements were for properties contaminated by the PAK 2000 fire. MRI recommended approving the three and used the same formula as the BTLA in the Poirier decision to determine value. The approvals are as follows:

  • PAK 2000, Inc. - $4974.95 plus interest
  • William & Richard Forbes - $932.54 plus interest
  • John L. Hersey - $526.32 plus interest

The Selectmen denied the abatement request by Edward Riordan.

Chairman Weeks reported that HEB would meet with the Selectmen in the next week or two to present the plan for the Transfer Station.

The meeting with the architect, Wes Flierl, has been rescheduled to Tuesday June 29th at 1PM at the Town House.

The Selectmen next discussed the Fire Protection Water Source plan submitted by Chief Thompson. This plan would be a guideline for new developments. One suggestion was to clarify the use and accessibility of water sources already available. Selectmen will look at it further for the next meeting.

Selectman Stockman stated that the Public Safety Needs Committee was looking for more direction from the Board. Chairman Weeks responded that she has already spoken to Joe Kowalski and referred him back to the original directive. The idea is to develop a plan for the town that looks at what we have and what we need. How adequate is the town now and what is the right way to go. Chairman Weeks advised that the committee should visit town buildings as well as surrounding town’s facilities as a group. At the end of the study the committee should also have a direction for the long term.

Dave Eaton reported that the Budget Committee met last Tuesday. The Selectmen will be notified of any BudCom meetings and will pick a representative to attend.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
