The Selectmen’s meeting minutes for 6-7-04 have been approved.
At approximately 6:30
Selectmen met with Planning Board Chairman Rick Friend. A Planning Board member
is retiring at the end of his term and Mr. Friend wanted to recommend a
replacement. Mr. Friend recommended appointing Joan Theve to the board and also
recommended that Barbara Wood be reappointed, as there
is a considerable learning curve and it is in the best interest of the board to
not make too many changes. Selectman Albee voiced concerns regarding Ms. Wood’s
reappointment as he has heard some things that lead him to believe that there
is a problem. There was much discussion and Ms. Wood, who was in attendance,
spoke in her defense and asked the Selectmen for a decision tonight on her
status. She did not want to wait another week. Selectman Albee said he would
vote no at this time so it would be wise to wait. Ms. Wood accepted this and
left. Selectman Albee also said he would like to meet Ms. Theve before making a
decision about her appointment.
The Selectmen discussed the various boards, Conservation and
ZBA, which need decisions by next week.
At approximately 7:00
Selectmen met with Roger Leroux. Mr. Leroux would like to rent watercraft from
his Pier 19 store but was told by the Code Officer that someone had come to him
with a concern. Mr. Leroux did not understand why there would be any concern
but said the he did not proceed with his plan this past weekend. He expressed
his own concern because it is a very short season. Selectmen Stockman said that
as he already sold gas and had some dock space he did not see any problem with
renting the watercraft. Mr. Leroux said he did not have any intention to sell
boats or anything of that nature but was looking to supplement his income to
allow him to keep the store open year round. Chairman Weeks said she would
speak to the code officer and have Mr. Wright contact him by Thursday the
latest.
Chairman Weeks announced that she had attended the Coalition
Communities meeting last Tuesday, as did Selectman Albee. The Coalition decided
to move forward with a lawsuit.
A Selectmen’s meeting with architect Wes Flierl has been set
up for Wednesday June 16th at the Town House to go over the plans
for the planned renovation.
At approximately 7:30
Selectmen met with Ed Bergeron regarding County
Road Bridge.
The design work has been completed and is ready to be put out for bid pending
DOT approval. The estimated cost of $131,690.00 is about $12,000.00 higher than
the original estimate. The actual cost will depend on the accepted bid. The bid
will go out for three weeks with a bid date around the middle of July and the
contract being awarded by August 1st. The bid opening will be at the
HEB office and will be checked for corporate
seal, addendum and bid bond. A recommendation would be made within a week. This
is approximately a 12-week construction project so it could be finished this
fall. Mr. Bergeron will get the proposal for the Transfer Station out shortly.
At approximately 7:25
Selectmen met with Gary Roberge of Avitar to go over some issues before the
meeting with DRA next week. Mr. Roberge will have a list of discrepancies
between the tax maps and owner index ready tomorrow to be reviewed and
corrected. Mr. Roberge submitted a list of features to be considered – docks,
above ground pools, etc. Mr. Roberge suggests collecting all data and then
deciding how to handle. Mr. Roberge stressed that it is their job to assess
market value. He will need a place to keep a boat for access to the island
properties. When questioned about Internet access, Mr. Roberge stated that
after values are finalized information packets would be mailed which will
include information on accessing the information for the entire town. This is
only for Tuftonboro property owners and is not for public information. It will
be available online for 30 to 45 days and will include pictures, sketches and
values. It will not include mailing addresses. It was suggested to plan a
meeting soon to explain the process to the town. The school will be checked for
availability.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30
PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carolyn Sundquist
