Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes for 5-10-04 were accepted.

Chairman Weeks reported that as per Verizon the telephone lines would be moved and the old poles removed by the end of next week.

At approximately 6:30 Selectmen met with Ted Bense. Mr. Bense reported that a 14-foot wide gate would cost $574.00 so the approximate total cost with the fence is $3000.00. Mr. Bense had contacted the snow mobile club and found that the club does not groom the trail at the beach and had no problem with the fence or the gate. After some discussion a motion was made by Selectman Stockman to approve the purchase of the long section of the fence only. Seconded by Selectman Albee with all in favor. Mr. Bense will be meeting the rep from American Fence on Monday. Mr. Bense requested permission to clean up some clumps of bushes and rocks at the beach. Selectmen approved the removal of the small rock pile at this time.

In answer to Mr. Bense’s question, the Selectmen approved a reimbursement of $40.00 per household when hazardous waste is brought the Wolfeboro facility.

At approximately 7:05 Selectmen met with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. Chief Thompson submitted to the Selectmen a graph showing the breakdown of firefighter hours for the first quarter. This report will be produced quarterly. Calls to date – 73 fire, 32 medical and 9 service. Inspections to date – 9 oil burner and 4 chimney. Chief Thompson advised that Wolfeboro is negotiating a new ambulance contract, which would include an ambulance primarily for the use of Wolfeboro. Lakeside Ambulance will look into having 2 crews on duty round the clock to service surrounding towns. Chief Thompson suggested having an actual contract drawn up for next year. The Chief reported that the department assisted with the storage of the ice rink and is still willing to help as much as possible but that sometimes schedules are in conflict. Bill Donovan has completed his paramedic training and will be a certified paramedic shortly. His pay rate will be the same as the EMT’s. Mr. Donovan will carry his equipment with him when responding to a call. All drugs will kept locked up and will be subject to monthly inventory. Chief Thompson submitted a new member application for the junior firefighter program. The applicant is Casey Hopkins. He will have limited responsibility until he turns 18. Selectman Stockman made a motion to approve the recommendation of Chief Thompson and appoint Casey Hopkins Junior Firefighter. Seconded by Selectman Albee with all in favor. Chief Thompson has not heard anything yet regarding the grant for the airboat.

Chief Shagoury had informed Chairman Weeks that the Police Department has received the grant for the replacement of the defective vests and that six candidates passed the physical agility test.

Joe Kowalski reported on the Public Safety Needs Committee meeting. One issue that came up that Mr. Kowalski felt should be addressed now is the shortage of electrical circuits in the police department. Apparently when the printer or air conditioner comes on the computer goes on battery backup. An electrician will be contacted to assess the situation.

Mr. Kowalski had submitted a proposed advertisement for the sale of the Caterpillar Traxcavator. Chairman Weeks asked for a list of the parts to be included. This would then be advertised and put out for bid.

The Selectmen approved the following for signature:

  • Intent to Cut for Chocorua Forestlands
  • Tax Deed for Hodges

Tom Sweeney is to be contacted and reminded that the seeding of the landfill should be done ASAP.

At approximately 7:75, Selectman Albee made a motion to go into non-public session pursuant to RSA 91-A: 3 II (b) to discuss a personnel issue. Selectman Stockman seconded the motion. Roll call: Chairman Weeks – yes, Selectman Stockman – yes, Selectman Albee – yes.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
