Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes for 5-3-04 were accepted.

At approximately 6:30 Selectmen met with Ken Cookson and Dick O’Shaughnessy of the Tuftonboro Association. The Association would like the town to sponsor a roadside clean up day. It is hoped that with the town sponsoring the event it would be covered by the town’s insurance. The Tuftonboro Association would provide the bags and arrange for the garbage to be picked and take care of the advertising. The Selectmen were in favor of the idea.  Mr. Cookson will be notified after the insurance is checked for coverage to proceed with the planning of the event.

At approximately 6:40 Selectmen met with Steve Plante. Mr. Plante owns property on Piper Road and would like to make some improvements to the road, which is a class VI. The road is in bad shape, is a dumping area and remnants of a logging operation are evident. Chairman Weeks advised Mr. Plante to go over his plan with the road agent and to post a bond. Once Mr. Plante submits his paperwork it would then go to town counsel to make sure all is in order.

Chairman Weeks reported on the meeting with Parks and Rec at the town beach. Selectman Albee was also in attendance. Parks and Rec Commission members present were Eric Roseen, Ted Bense, Dan & Sandy Libby and Will Williams. Also present was resident Fran Laase. After looking at the proposed improvements to the beach area it was decided to approve the purchase of the fence. Ted Bense will speak to the snowmobile club regarding access to the lake during the winter. The Selectmen had no objection the horseshoes or volleyball but felt that the foursquare and pavilion be considered one project. More investigation needs to be done before proceeding with that project. The ice rink was also discussed. There are no volunteers at this time that want to maintain it next winter. Parks and Rec would like it to be a paid position. There was a suggestion to store the rink for next season. The ball field has to be fixed up. Chairman Weeks will confer with the road agent.

At approximately 6:55 Selectmen met with Fred Sargent and Joe Kowalski. Mr. Kowalski has again contacted Atlantic Leasing regarding the new compactor. He has been told it could possibly be delivered in 7 to 10 days. Mr. Kowalski reported that the meeting with Jay Poulin of HEB took place last Thursday. Ed Bergeron was also in attendance. A presentation will be made to the selectmen on May 24th. Mr. Kowalski and Mr. Sargent stated that they were opposed to the application for Transfer Station decals being put on the town website. They both felt that this was open to abuse. After some discussion, it was decided that the application could stay on the site but would be monitored very closely by the Administrative Assistant. A general discussion ensued about controls at the Transfer Station and how strict the rules should be administered. Selectman Albee felt that being too strict or charging too much would promote dumping along roadsides. A journal is to be kept of any incidents or issues that come up when trying to enforce the rules and policies at the transfer station.

Dave Eaton asked if a sign could be placed at the end of New Road at County Road to define the end of the road. There is one at the other end where it meets Sodom Road. The road agent will be contacted to purchase the sign.

The Selectmen voted to sign the following:

  • Timber Tax Warrant for Williams
  • Lien for Loveday

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist

Administrative Assistant
