A suggestion was made to have a candidate’s night to introduce each of the candidates for Selectmen. Rick Friend will speak to Ken Cookson, president of the Tuftonboro Association, to have them coordinate the event.

At approximately 6:40, Selectmen met with Recycling Supervisor Fred Sargent. There was some discussion regarding the new compactor. One quote has been received from Atlantic Leasing and another on the way. The NRRA has supplied a list of what is recycled and what is not. This will help to clear up any confusion on what to recycle.

At approximately 7:00, Selectmen met with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. The state has just notified the Chief that the generator must be permanently hooked up to the school. It cannot be a portable as was previously approved. Apparently the state allowed the town to order a generator it could not use. Selectmen will wait for the state’s written notification and will respond at that time. As the whole project is on hold the previously issued check to the electrician will be returned.

The lease from Brindlee Mtn. Fire Apparatus for the interim fire truck will be faxed to Town Counsel for review.

Chief Thompson reported 27 fire, 11 medical and 2 service calls to date.

Chairman Chellman proposed leasing the three pieces of equipment (fire truck, compactor and tractor) needed this year. It would be one lease with one payment through Municipal Leasing Credit Corp. After much discussion it was decided to take out the compactor and just lease the other two using a seven-year lease. Using this method will reduce the total of the warrant articles to $758,000.00. Total appropriations recommended $2,585,398.00. The total estimated revenue was adjusted to $1,420,915.00. The amount to be raised by taxes was increased mainly due to the need to appropriate $210,000.00 for the revaluation. The Budget Committee will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 before the public hearing at 7:30 to finalize their numbers. Three members of the committee were in attendance – John Morgan, Rick Friend and Lloyd Wood.

Selectmen recommended the veterans credit be increased to $250.00 and to $2,000.00 for disabled veterans.

The Selectmen will meet Tuesday, February 17th at 5PM instead of Monday due to the Presidents Day holiday.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
