Tuesday December 28, 2004

*Accepted* 1-3-05

Selectmen present:  Susan Weeks and Bill Stockman. Chip Albee was absent.

Minutes: The Selectmen’s meeting minutes of 12-20-04 were approved.

Items for Signature: Application for Current Use for Proctor Family Trust; Primex Multi-Year Discount Program; Verification of Tax Exempt Status from White Mountain Oil & Propane; Abatement Request from Joan Beane; 2004 Fire Permits Report.

At approximately 8:30 Selectmen met with Brian Lord of Lord/Lakeside Ambulance Service regarding the 2005 service contract. Mr. Lord reported that he was able to reduce the amount from $82,000.00 to $68,735.00. The Town of Wolfeboro revised its restrictions so that Tuftonboro would now have some coverage depending on where the call originates. The increased cost is due to the additional personnel that would have to be added in Ossipee to also provide coverage for the Town. Mr. Lord was asked if having a building in Tuftonboro to house the ambulance and personnel would potentially be a savings for the town. Mr. Lord said that it would especially since Wolfeboro is looking for exclusive control of an ambulance in the near future. It would also be a good idea to have a simple contract drawn-up in the event of a change in administration or ownership of the service.

The Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Abatement of $13.65 for Joan Beane
  • Application for Current Use for 3 properties owned by Proctor Family Trust
  • 2004 Fire Permits Payments
  • Verification of Tax Exempt Status for White Mountain Oil & Propane

The Selectmen discussed several budget issues. Wes Flierl is preparing an estimate for the additional renovations on the Town House. Chairman Weeks felt that the expenditure should be a warrant article as the cost could be in the $60,000.00 to $100,000.00 range. A warrant article for the Public Safety Building should also be drawn up to start the process. The department heads for the Conservation Commission, Parks & Rec, Cemetery Trustees and Road Agent will be reminded to submit their budgets.

At approximately 9:30 Selectmen met with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. Chief Thompson would like to purchase an airboat for the department. Chief Thompson will present this at next weeks meeting.

The Mirror Lake Station generator hook-up has been completed.

Chief Thompson requested the purchase of a bubbler for Union Wharf in the area where the fireboat is kept. This would provide a water source during the winter. The dry hydrant at 19 Mile Bay is not useable as it gets clogged with debris. The Selectmen approved the purchase from this year’s budget.

Selectmen discussed the Primex 5% Multi-Year Discount Program. The town would save 5% for each year in the three-year contract for Property & Liability and Workers’ Compensation. Selectman Stockman made a motion to approve the three-year contract with the 5% savings. Seconded by Chairman Weeks with all in favor.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 am.

Respectfully Submitted,
