Chairman Weeks announced that next weeks meeting would be held on Tuesday December 28th at 8:30 am.

Joe Kowalski reported that the Road Agent has picked up and delivered the glass at the Transfer Station and brought it to Ossipee Aggregates. This will cost the Town $10.00 per ton plus the Road Agent’s cost. The Transfer Station handles about 60 to 80 tons per year. The glass if put in the compactor would cost $59.00 per ton.

A memo from H. E. Bergeron advised that there has been a delay in the delivery of the materials for the County Road Bridge.

Chairman Weeks advised that the new door for the Town House would be installed tomorrow.

Selectmen discussed the Emergency Management budget with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. Chief Thompson will get additional information on the water treatment systems for both stations and will speak to the Road Agent about tree removal.

The Ambulance contract has increased by 84% due to the new contract that Lakeside has with the Town of Wolfeboro. Because the ambulance in Wolfeboro is strictly for them Lakeside would have to add coverage for Tuftonboro based in Ossipee. The cost to the town would be $82,000.00. Chief Thompson said that Tuftonboro has had 124 medical calls so far this year. Brian Lord will be asked to attend next weeks Selectmen’s meeting.

Selectmen met with Burr Philips from H. E. Bergeron regarding the Transfer Station Existing-Conditions Plan done by Jay Poulin. There was much discussion around several options after which Chairman Weeks said the first thing that must be decided is which road is to be used as this will determine where the buildings go. Selectman Stockman made a motion to reroute traffic to recycle first. Seconded by Selectman Albee with all in favor. Mr. Philips will have an estimate of the cost, which will include regrading and the moving of the telephone pole by mid-January.

Selectmen approved and signed the following:

  • Lien Discharge for Simmons
  • Veterans tax credit for Hansen
  • Intent to Cut for Merritt

At approximately 8:25 Selectmen again met with Chief Thompson to go over several other issues on the Emergency Management budget. The increased cost for the generator is to get the school wired and have the fire stations adapted to hook up the generator. The sign replacement was reduced to $1000.00. The Emergency Management budget of $22,000.00 will be presented to the Budget Committee on January 5th.

Chief Shagoury announced that officer Sheehy will most likely start at the Academy on January 3rd. There is a slight chance she will not get in, as there are quite a few candidates.

A discussion ensued regarding the decision last week to freeze salaries for employees with health benefits. Selectman Albee asked if there was value in having a staff meeting as this would be an opportunity to discuss the rationale behind the decision. It was felt that employees do not know the dollar value of the health benefits and should understand all the factors. Chief Shagoury felt it was important to communicate. Chief Shagoury also questioned whether Officer Sheehy was entitled to a raise when she comes off probation. The Selectmen advised that in changing from one job description to another she was entitled to a raise. The Selectmen have not reviewed the step chart for the Police Department. There will be a step chart in place for all employees next year. The Selectmen decided to hold the staff meeting on Tuesday January 11th at 5 pm at the Town House. This is for all employees.

The warrant articles should be presented when ready.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Carolyn Sundquist
