At approximately 6:30 the Selectmen approved and signed the following:

Chairman Weeks reported that the tax rate for 2004 increased $1.33 to $16.63 per thousand of assessed value. The election will be held November 2nd from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Town House.

Two applications have been received regarding the Deputy Town Clerk position. Interviews will be set up and coordinated with the Town Clerk.

The new voting booths have been received and put together. Chairman Weeks met with moderator Dan Barnard and Supervisor Betsy Thornton at the Town House to try to come up with an arrangement for Election Day.

Chairman Weeks mentioned the plan to have a Public Safety Needs Assessment exhibit on Election Day to Moderator Dan Barnard. Both the Moderator and Supervisor of the Checklist Betsy Thornton felt it was inappropriate and a form of electioneering. The display can only be set up in the Selectmen’s room at the Town House.

The current status of the landfill seeding issue will be put on next week’s agenda. Selectman Albee requested a breakdown of landfill monitoring charges for this year.

At approximately 7:20 Selectmen met with Fire Chief Adam Thompson. The Chief reported 155 fire, 100 medical and 27 service calls to date. There were also 4 paramedic intercept calls and 28 oil burner inspections. The department will not be hosting EMT training this year due to cost. A dry hydrant has been placed at Dame and Middle Road. Firefighter Jeremy Santulli has resigned effective today. Chief Thompson made a recommendation to appoint Caleb Pike as firefighter. He is currently a lieutenant in Effingham but will be moving to Tuftonboro on October 26th. Chief Thompson advised that the new fire truck would be delivered January 22, 2005. This will mean an additional month’s rental of the truck now in use. A breakdown of calls and training hours was submitted for review by the Selectmen. A house on Governor Wentworth Highway in Melvin Village was considered for a building burn but because of scheduling it could not be done. The department has however been given permission to use it for smoke and other types of training. Chief Thompson presented his 2005 budget for review. Much discussion centered on proposed increases in salary and staffing. Selectmen also questioned an increase in Maintenance. Chief Thompson explained the reasons for the increase in maintenance – last year he had a credit from LRFA so the 2003 budget was reduced by $3,000.00 and it is possible that 10-E-2 will need a pump rebuild at a cost of $6,500.00. The budget will be revisited.

Selectmen approved the following budgets:

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
